How to Use an Elliptical the First Time
It may seem obvious, but using an Elliptical Trainer for the first time can seem a little clumsy. I remember the first time I got on an Elliptical Trainer, it felt a little bit awkward. There didn't seem to be much harmony or poetry going on between my arms and legs. I like this Elliptical Trainer video because it teaches the very things that took me a couple of times to learn on my own: Tilt your body just a tad forward. Breath in through nose; out through mouth and get into a rhythm. Using your arms will make your legs work easier and vice versa. One tip, I might add which is not included here: The peddles are large enough that you can adjust and vary the placement of your feet. This will keep your feet or ankles from getting sore from being in the same place too long. Enjoy the video. The best training of course, is finding the right Elliptical Trainer. How to Use an Elliptical For Cardio
If you were to decide to take a 30 minute jog, chances are pretty good, you'd get your heart beat up to 125-155 BPM, depending on your age and keep it there for at least 20 minutes or so. How to use an elliptical for cardio is not much different. You should determine your workout heart rate prior to starting your exercise on the elliptical trainer. The great thing about using an elliptical for cardo or aerobic exercise is that the machine can be programmed so your heart rate is never too fast or too slow. You can do this by decreasing or increasing the resistance or by choosing a program that keeps your working heart rate within a suitable range. How to use an elliptical trainer for cardio requires knowing your maximum heart rate, resting heart rate and working heart rate. Like any good aerobics program, you will need to know your body ahead of time. With an elliptical trainer, you've got a number of ways to keep your heart rate where you want it.
How to Use an Elliptical for Strength Conditioning
How to use an elliptical trainer for strength relies on using the machine's resistant levels to build the strength up in your arms and legs. You can do this by choosing one of the elliptical machine's courses; i.e mountain climbing or stairs - or you can simply increase your resistance and incline manually to achieve the resistance necessary in your arms and legs to feel 'the burn' and build up to a higher level each time.
